Itinerary

Introduction to London
We start by seeing the main sights including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and St. Paul’s Cathedral. The TOWER OF LONDON was originally built by William the Conqeuror. It has served as a Palace, prison, zoo and fortress and contains the Crown Jewels and an armoury with Henry VIII’s suit of armour. Nearby, is the iconic TOWER BRIDGE with a panoramic view of the Thames. WESTMINSTER ABBEY, is the site of every coronation since 1066 and one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England. Finally, a flight on the LONDON EYE gives a bird’s eye view of London.

Stonehenge - Bath - Roman Baths
STONEHENGE is a must when visiting England. A World Heritage Site, the most famous stone circle in the world is 5,000 years old and is built from huge stones which were transported over 250 miles. From here to BATH, the only location in Britain with a hot spring. We will walk the city and visit the ROMAN BATHS which were discovered in the 1870’s. The ABBEY stands in the centre and its façade features stone angels climbing Jacob’s Ladder to Heaven. There are many other sites to explore including The Jane Austen Centre and the genteel Pump Rooms, which serve fine lunches.

Classic Gardens - Sissinghurst - Dixter
This day gives you the opportunity to visit two of the finest gardens in England. SISSINGHURST is a series of outdoor rooms landscaped in the grounds of a Tudor Manor in the 1930’s by poet Vita Sackville-West and her husband. For many, this is the definitive English garden and is now in the care of The National Trust. The glorious gardens around the medieval house at GREAT DIXTER were created by Christopher Lloyd and designed by the architect Edwin Lutyens. Meadow gardening is a particular feature and the long border is a spectacular combination of shrubs, climbers, perennials and annuals.

Oxford - Blenheim Palace
OXFORD is the oldest seat of English learning and the first college was founded in 1167 by monks as a rival to the French Universities. Notable students include Bill Clinton, Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher and the University now consists of 36 colleges. You have a private walking tour of the city, seeing the Martyr’s Memorial, The Sheldonian Theatre, The Radcliffe Camera and Bodleian Library. CHRISTCHURCH COLLEGE is the largest college, dating from 1525. BLENHEIM PALACE was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and is a magnificent building set in a park designed by Capability Brown.

The Cotswolds
The tour begins with a tour through some of the most picturesque villages and market towns in the scenic rolling hills of the COTSWOLDS, including Bourton-on-the-Water, The Slaughters and Stow-on-the-Wold. Thatched cottages built from golden limestone, clear streams and fields of sheep which brought wealth to the area. HIDCOTE MANOR Garden is a small but beautiful garden around a typical Cotswold manor house. It is a short journey from here to STRATFORD-UPON-AVON where you see the houses and museums associated with our most famous playwright, Shakespeare.
